Introduction

Hello all and welcome to my BlogSpot page for my XBMC experiences. My first ever blog!!

For replication, if needed, my home theatre setup is as follows.
  • HTPC: Acer Aspire Revo 3700
  • Television:     Samsung 32" LCD
  • AV Amp:       Onkyo TX-SR607
  • Remote:         Logitech Harmony One (with codes for HP Mediasmart x280n)
  • IR Receiver:  HP Media Centre OVU400102
  • NAS:            D-Link DNS-323 (with 2 x 2TB Western Digital HDD's in mirroring)
  • Router:          Zyxel 8 port Gigabyte Switch
So I decided to write this page as I wanted to give something back to the community and all those pages I've gone to Google to find. 'God Bless the Geeks'! I also thought it would be a great place to record what I’ve done for when I want to do it again.

Its worth noting that the only part of this that is actually my work is the pulling together of all the bits of info from other peoples websites, mine and others forum posts and pieces of feedback / guides given by the awesome community there is out there. The other point that I’d like to make is that until a year ago when starting my journey I’d never used a Linux based OS before in my life and i can't code for toffee!

Aims for the installation:

  • To have XBMC installed
  • To not see the OS and boot straight into XBMC
  • To have all the pretty XBMC boot logos
  • To have a FTP access with FXP capability
  • To have a torrent program installed and accessible from web browser
  • To be able to use Airplay with my iPhone
  • To be able to control XBMC with a phone / pad (android or iPhone)
  • To be able to use the remote control to navigate through XBMC
  • To have access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD and 5
  • To be able to watch full 1080p videos streamed over a network from a NAS
  • To have the correct audio codec sent from videos and songs to my AV Amp
I have tried to write each page as a module so that a person can, if wanted, just go straight to the page most useful to them so there may be some repetition of tasks. Please choose a Step 1: (or another of your choosing) from the list on the right to begin

Enjoy

James
